McNiff, I am struck at the depth of your design and practice with proximity in this space. I wanna know more about how you are using this though.
ReplyDeleteWhat does -- mean? Is the semiotic domain all encompassing? Does the External operate outside or inside of the semiotic domain?
Last--you type, "I'm not sure I'm buying Gee with this one. Let me rephrase. I agree with Gee, but his comparison with psychology seems slightly skewed. I think if he just stuck with traditional view which is as general as saying psychology, his writing would be a lot stronger and more convincing." I want to know more about your disagreement. Seems really important.
I think the diagram becomes more specific as it reaches the bottom. So maybe it acts as Gee explains: that as you continue to play a video game you are learning more about that domain.
ReplyDeleteThe Semiotic Domain diagram works in the same sense that as you move down to the bottom it becomes more progressive and intricate as would a person who goes deeper into a video game.
Still, that is only explaining the diagram on the page, it's not putting it into motion or making it 3D to be used, which is the purpose of Gee.
I'm trying to figure out how it could be used and how the parts would move based on their proximity and now alignmet. I'm going to try to repost it with a better work on alignment. I'm having a hard time with the structure though, because the words keep moving after I post it.
